Academics

At Sunlight Christian Academy, our high school program, housed at our Upper School Campus, challenges students with a rigorous academic standard while guiding them in their spiritual walk. We use a blend of curricula that foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, all rooted in a faith-based framework. Grounded in current educational research, our approach equips students with the tools they need for success in higher education and beyond, while also shaping their worldview through the truth of God’s Word. Our ultimate goal is to prepare young men and women to navigate real-world challenges with wisdom, confidence, and a strong Christian foundation.

Extension Activities

At Sunlight Christian Academy, we believe education goes beyond textbooks and tests—it’s about helping students flourish academically, spiritually, and socially. Alongside core subjects like Bible, English Language Arts, Math, Science, and History, our middle school students engage in a faith-based curriculum that teaches social-emotional learning (SEL) through a Biblical lens, with an emphasis on building strong, Christ-centered friendships.

Students also have the opportunity to explore a wide range of engaging electives that allow them to discover their God-given gifts and talents.  Some of these include woodshop, drawing, study hall, chorus, criminal justice, band, team sports, and ocean life.

Each week begins with chapel, where our school community comes together to worship and hear God’s Word. High school students also participate in an annual spiritual retreat, providing time to grow deeper in faith and strengthen bonds with their peers.

Together, these experiences nurture both the hearts and minds of our students, preparing them to thrive in school, in life, and in their walk with Christ.

High school literature program helps students go beyond just reading literature. Students learn how to interact with and appreciate it. This program uses the reading process to help students complete close readings of each selection. Units are arranged thematically to encourage students to ask and engage with worldview shaping questions that help them to recognize different perspectives in literature. By studying literature, students expand their own understanding of and learn to take delight in excellent writing. By examining texts from different cultures, diverse authors and genres, and a range of time periods, students learn about differing cultures and worldviews and how to communicate with them. In turn, the students learn to analyze and evaluate literature through the lens of a biblical worldview. It is through the analysis and evaluation of historical and contemporary literature that students become discerning, lifelong readers and creative communicators.

World History

Western Civilizations

BJU Press
World History guides students through the story of history, starting with creation and continuing to the present. Students will analyze five key themes throughout history from a biblical perspective: justice, power, citizenship, environment, and world religions. They will also do specific studies on Africa, the East, Asia, pre-colonization Americas, and empires in Africa, India, and Asia. As they trace the major patterns in world history, they will see how those themes point more and more clearly to the triumph of the kingdom of God.

Western Civilization examines the development of Western society from a biblical worldview, tracing key ideas, events, and leaders that shaped history. Students explore how Scripture influenced law, government, philosophy, and culture, gaining a deeper understanding of God’s hand in the Western story.
